The local government covering the borough of Kingston Upon Thames, one of the boroughs within Greater London. Located in the south west of London, it stretches from Richmond Park to the M25 and is bordered by the River Thames on one side. The council provides services and support for the residents and visitors of the borough.

Education & Leisure areas of influence includes:
provision of nursery, primary and secondary education through 50 various schools
various mechanisms for the support of children with special educational needs
funding of degree and post-graduate studies of residents from the borough
continuous learning through adult educational courses
provision of library & museum services
promotion of  tourism within the borough

The Finance Section has 10 members providing financial services to the units within the directorate and schools under the local education authority's control. Overall responsibility for the budget of  Education & Leisure is in the hands of the elected councillors of the council, although how it is allocated is within the control of each unit or school.

dealing with operating units managers (monitoring performance & forward planning/budgets) (Inter-Personal)
controlling the allocation of capital cost centres and check capital expenditure (Organisation)
responsible for the calculation of the recoupment of income from neighbouring local authorities and dealing with any queries relating to this issue (Communication)

Promoted to assistant of principle accountant in 1996 - following three years working in the Schools Section (Dealing with Change)

Assisting with the introduction of a new borough-wide accounting system within the directorate and supervised three colleagues during the re-coding of all the directorates salary and wages automated allocations (Leadership)

Assisting with the set up and maintenance of the departments LAN and connection with the borough’s computer systems, including ordering and fitting network cards, plus installing and configuring appropriate software (Information Technology)

Supervising the identifying & clearing of errors produced by the borough's system (Problem Solving)

Supervising on-line adjustments to the borough's financial records (revenue, capital and budget) (Leadership)

Supervising the handing over of a business unit (leisure centre) to outside contractors (Professionalism)

Designed the section's memo, letter head, internal and external fax cover sheets (Initiative)

Control the accruals and prepayments raised in the directorate during closing of the financial year and assist with the closure overall (Organisation)
